Cécile Boulaire

Cécile Boulaire serves as an Associate Professor with Habilitation (MCF HDR) at the University of Tours, where she also functions as the Deputy Director of the InTRu research laboratory. Her scholarship profoundly investigates the material history and narratology of children’s picturebooks, specifically examining the evolution of editorial practices from the nineteenth century to the contemporary era. Within her recent inquiry, “Les premiers âges de l’expérience narrative” (2024), Boulaire dissects the foundational structures of early childhood storytelling. Furthermore, her editorial leadership of the journal Strenæ continues to shape the international discourse on childhood cultural artifacts, as evidenced by the 2025 thematic exploration of multimodal youth biographies. By integrating historical bibliography with visual culture studies, Boulaire’s current project, Album ’50, illuminates the transformative aesthetic shifts in mid-century European publishing, establishing her as a pivotal figure in the cross-disciplinary study of iconotextual narratives.
