Chrysogonus Siddha Malilang

Chrysogonus Siddha Malilang is an Associate Professor at Linnaeus University, whose scholarship critically interrogates the intersections of postcolonialism, diversity, and material agency within contemporary children’s literature. His recent research, notably explored in 2025 contributions to Bookbird: A Journal of International Children’s Literature, shifts toward ecological and post-humanist perspectives, examining nonhuman agents and the radical potential of resistance in global narratives. By integrating a/r/tography with practice-based school research, Malilang investigates how wordless picturebooks facilitate literacy development in diverse classrooms, a focus central to his ongoing project on multimodal storytelling. His work further extends into the politics of translation, evidenced by his 2024 analysis of Indonesian adaptations of Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwocky. Through these diverse inquiries, Malilang consistently challenges Eurocentric paradigms, advocating for a nuanced understanding of child agency and cultural hybridity in an increasingly interconnected and mediated literary landscape.
