Viviana Urban

Viviana Urban is a distinguished librarian and educator with over twenty years of experience in the management and curation of library resources, specifically focusing on the developmental and literary needs of children and adolescents. A graduate in History from the University of Trieste, she initially established her technical expertise in library cataloging before pivoting to lead children’s departments, a role she has occupied with a distinct focus on literacy development and community engagement.

Her practical expertise is reinforced by advanced specialization from the University of Padua, where she completed the “Reading and Literature for Children and Adolescents (0–18)” program during the 2019/2020 academic year. During this period, she produced the research paper Home is where I want to be, a thematic exploration of domesticity and belonging within adolescent literature. This work exemplifies her ability to bridge archival history with contemporary narrative theory, providing a sophisticated framework for her practical interventions in reading education.

In her current capacity, Urban operates as a bridge between institutional policy and classroom practice. She designs and executes multifaceted reading programs for local schools and the public, while simultaneously conducting specialized training modules for educators. Her influence extends to regional policy through her membership in the technical group for LeggiAMO 0-18, the primary reading promotion initiative of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. Furthermore, her contribution to the field is reflected in her role as a workshop leader for Children’s Literature at the University of Padua and her active membership in the Italian Library Association (AIB / Associazione Italiana Biblioteche).
